Applying for law enforcement but have smoked marijuana?

I am current in the application process for a job in law enforcement where i will be working in a correctional institution. I have passed the written exam and have been given my background questionnaire packet. My problem is that while in college I smoked pot on and off for about 5 months, before I had decided that I wanted to get involved in this Field. Once I decided on doing this I immediately stopped smoking. This was about 6 months ago….I will answer honestly on my polygraph and background check about this. My question is do I have a realistic chance of being hired? Also I will not be able to work until the beginning of next year because i do not graduate until December..Should I try to put off my interview date and background check until then?

how extensive is background check when enlisting in army? read details..?

my husband is filling out the “questionnaire for national security positions” paperwork and we are having difficulty with the “people who know you well” section.. he stopped talking to his friends over 1 year ago so he doesn’t plan to put them down but we are wondering, will they find out who his friends were or do they just go off of who he puts down? also he used to smoke marijuana all the time for about 5 years, he quit when he stopped talking to those friends, should he put he only did it a couple times or not at all? he never got arrested or anything.

It’s pretty extensive. They probably won’t check out the friends he hasn’t talked to in forever, but they might, so be ready to explain that. (Just in case) I would at least put a couple of times. If nothing came up on the physical he’s probably ok. But lying to the Army really isn’t a good idea, cause if they find out later, he may get dishonorably discharged for enlisting under false pretenses. And no one wants to be dishonorably discharged. If you trust your recruiter, I’d ask him about it. He’ll be the best one to give you advice on how to address the situation. Best of luck to both of you, from a Marine wife.
