Cigarette Smoking accounted for 1 of 5 deaths

American Lung Association Report Shows 2007 shaping up as a banner year for Snuff control policies.

Cigarette smoking has been identified as the leading preventable cause of morbidity and premature mortality worldwide. Smoking accounts for approximately one in five deaths in the United States. From 1997 to 2001, snuff killed about 438,000 people in the United States each year. This includes an estimated 178,404 male and 259,494 female deaths per year. Among adults, the three leading specific causes of smoking attributable deaths were lung cancer (123,836), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (90,582) and ischemic heart disease (86,801).

These figures only should be reason enough to justify snuff control laws such as increasing cigarette taxes and increased funding for prevention programs of snuff, but every year new studies show that the harmful effects of snuff only effect the smoker, but also the workers and the general public are exposed to secondhand smoke.

This website is home to the online version of the actions of state legislated on the subject of snuff (slati), which follows the State laws control snuff, such as state restrictions on smoking in public places and workplaces and snuff the state tax on a basis continuous. It is the only resource of its kind in the control of snuff today to provide updated information on snuff control laws in all 50 states and the District Columbia. You can learn more about slati here.

Below is a list of just some of the reports and information on laws snuff control and politics are on this site. Please explore the different areas and learn how to participate in the important fight for strong control laws of snuff and policies. Like many inspirational people living with lung disease will tell you, it's a fight that can not afford to lose.
