Smoked Turkey Breast?
I have a 4 1/2 pound turkey breast and I want to use my KC Rival electric smoker/roaster. Does anyone know what temp to set it on and how long it should cook for?
generally new appliances like that come with books telling you temp&time/lb of meat…

21 pound turkey,how to cook it?
okay so i have family coming this year, and so I bought a 21 pound turkey..but then when i was trying to figure out how to smoke a turkey it said it was dangerous..I do not have an oven(I would like to bake it, but we dont have a regular oven, we have a toaster oven)But this isnt a electric smoker,, it is a grill smoker my father in law has,,so my boyfriend says it wont hurt it cause it is hot enough to cook it. Should I be worried about rurning my turkey or do you think it will be ok. My father in law is smoking his too, and its a 21 pounder.

First I can’t recall anything more dangerous about smoking a turkey than using any other cooking method. You just have to know how to do it. The one problem is that virtually all smokers from the Weber barrel water smoker to horizontal smokers tend to cook food at very low temperatures compared to ovens and other similar methods. In other words, a 21 pounder might take several hours in addition to the time that it would normally take. It all has to do with how hot you get you smoker. I don’t know your particular arrangement, but it could take a minimum of 6-7 hours for a turkey of your size to cook fully.
I’ve never smoked a turkey before, although I have rotisserie grilled a smaller turkey and had it turn out perfectly fine. I would recommend brining the turkey for about 10-11 hours before you cook it. If you check around this site or post again, someone can give you a recipe for a brine. Since this is your father-in-law’s smoker, perhaps you should have him show you how to use it so that you can get an idea of how hot the smoker will get. Only then will you have an idea as to how long it may take to cook.
