Know of any natural alternatives to help quit smoking? Mental tips/tricks?
Its not just the nicotine. Its also the other 50+ chemicals they out in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as ‘my body needs something, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these ‘my body needs something’ sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming – nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the ‘want something’ feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we’ve had one we still have the feeling, and want another!

Are Cigarette Side Effects A Reason For Concern? Kill The Urge by Quitting Smoking
How many inner dialogs have you had with yourself about your smoking addiction? How many times have you complained to family and friends that you want to end the habit but seem to continue to smoke away despite the health risks and the cost? And how many methods have you tried that just flopped? If you are like most people struggling with smoking, you will remember such shattered hopes and may have felt nothing will really come through for you. Unless you tried hypnosis to stop smoking, you may have been right.
If you sincerely want to stop smoking, hypnosis is the sensible choice for true cures. Hypnotherapy to quit smoking can address the most significant reasons that keep you smoking as well as giving you the tools and guidance to be successful once and for all. This is not a mere parlor trick, but a proven treatment approved by the AMA since 1958, and one with accreditation and a strong code of ethics.

You do want one who is verified by the National Guild of Hypnotists and who supports their stringent ethical and professional standards. Included in their code is putting the mental and physical welfare of clients uppermost. They also defend clients from mental, physical or verbal abuse, and refer any client as appropriate.

Another component of smoking cigarettes is that it provides relaxation; just as using a pacifier tranquilizes babies. Many people treat anxiety and stress with some form of oral soothing like smoking cigarettes or eating. Hypnotic relaxation can replace the comfort factor received from smoking cigarettes, which reduces the insistent urges and produces the benefits of quitting instead. The mind can be trained to substitute the same perceptions from other activities that are beneficial, not harmful. Neurolinguistic techniques can teach the brain to remove any linkage between smoking cigarettes and comfort.
Lastly, part of the smoking habit is plain old Pavlovian habit formation to stimuli. Smokers learn to link smoking with certain activities, from the movie cliche of smoking immediately after physical relations to automatically lighting a cigarette while consuming alcohol or viewing television or chatting on the phone. Here hypnosis to stop smoking can permanently delete the association, and when the link is no longer there, there will be no stimulus to light up when the coffee is poured or the cocktail is served. The mind is conditioned to associate good things with the former triggers, or to recall the helpful effects of quitting or the created by having the smoke.
A highly qualified hypnotherapist will use both positive and negative associations to replace conditioned associations with smoking, selecting those most compelling for an individual client.
