Help a lifelong elder smoker of 66 years old to quit smoking, what is the best theory to be utilized in plan?
As this question is concerning behavior-related subject, i wish somebody with the knowledge can post their email so that i can tell more on the details of the condition. it is about a 66-year-old man, a life long smoker who start to feel the fear of smoking impact (breathless) n willing to get oxygen therapy but denied by the fact that he still cannot give up the ciggaretes. so, what is the best two theory of health behavior to be used (Health Belief Model, Theory of Planned Behavior, or Stage of Change Model) and how exactly should i use them in recommending plan for this old man…..

You can’t get him to stop smoking if he is not willing to quit. My father smoked for over 40 years and got scared enough by the need for a quadruple bypass operation that he quit cold turkey. You have to want to do it or it’s not going to work. It’s the same theory used by other drug addicts and alcoholics.

first of all congratulations on your decision to to quit, it a real big deal.. i smoked for over 40 years, the last 5 of which were one failed quit attempt after another… in general i have used most of the arsenal of replacement products, medications, and other techniques.. and always picked up again..
the good news is that i now have been quit for over 5 years.. i quit trying to quit alone, and joined a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are as close as your computer, and you can attend while still smoking, before actually attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!
