What do you think about certain states trying to ban smoking in public places?
In Illinois they are banning public smoking everywhere..even bars! I am a non-smoker, so it does not really relate to me, but It does seem rather unfair. Let me know what you think!!!! All answers welcome. 
I live in Illinois, and it is just not in public places, there are also a ton of restrictions when smoking outside too. I don’t smoke, but these new laws are completely absurd. The majority of businesses in Illinois did not want to bill to pass. Even though it has been in effect for only a few days, they are already seeing their businesses suffer. They say it is to promote health, but it is common knowledge that the Hitler in Springfield just wants another crusade after the failed video game ban that ended up costing the state millions of dollars from ESRB lawsuits. If they were so concerned about health issues, nine mental health facilities would not have been closed, thus kicking the residents out onto the street. The smoking ban is nothing more than an attempt to pass laws that are “popular” with younger culture to garner more votes in the future.
The solution is simple. If you are a business owner, you own your property. The government has no business telling you if patrons can smoke inside your property (cigarettes are legal). If you are a smoker and a business does not allow smoking, don’t go there if you don’t want to. f you are a non-smoker and the smoke bothers you at a business that allows it, go somewhere else. I really think to many peoples rights are being infringed upon.

Smoking is restricted or banned in almost all public places and cigarette companies are no longer allowed to advertise on TV, radio, and in many magazines. Smoking is depicted in engravings and on various types of pottery as early as the 9th century, but it is not known whether it was limited to just the upper class and priests.

Smoking is a lifestyle. And the lifestyle of a smoker is very different than that of a non-smoker. Smoking is one of the worst things kids or adults can do to their bodies. Yet every single day about 4,000 kids between the ages 12 and 17 start smoking. Smoking less than a pack a day also was shown to increase behavior problems, but the rates were not as high as for heavier smokers, the researchers found. The study was conducted by the Labor Department in which parents of 2,256 youngsters ages 4 to 11 were interviewed.

Why do some of you feel that banning smoking in public places is intruding on your right to smoke?

I’m telling you you can’t smoke in a location where others are at high risk of catching your 2nd hand smoke!
1st comes the right to breathe clean air.
Then comes the right to smoke.
i live in ct.we’ve had this law for several years now and in some ways i agree with it (and i’m a smoker)it was passed because people do have the right to work in public places without their health being compromised which i do agree with .however in one instance a man who owned a small bar and was the only employee wanted to keep smoking allowed by posting “this is a smoking establishment”on the door those who chose not to come in could do so -those who chose to could-whats wrong with that? it was denied (we also have a law that you can’t as a parent smoke in your own vechicle with your young children in it -where does goverment intrusion end?)
