what games do i play with 13 kids inside the house for a 7 yr old party?
i have had this pa’rty planned for a month but i have never thought what if i had to move it inside and well i do so my daughters’ bday party is on sat the 11th of may and i have only one game to play and that is the pinata. we have alot of smoke and rain so the party can not be outside at all. please help ! her theme is bratz and she will be 7 thanks
Here are some games we played when I was a kid. They were always big hits. I once asked my mom where she came up with them, and she said it was out of a woman’s magazine. They may sound hokey, but we used them over and over at my and my sister’s parties, and I’ve used them with my kids recently, and the kids really like them.
Before the party, make Rice Krispy treats and cut them into squares. Wrap each square in plastic wrap (they even make colored plastic wrap now), then tie a ribbon around each, leaving big loops in the bow. I always tie them like a Christmas present, so it looks like a + on the top and bottom. Curling ribbon works well for this. Make a “fishing pole” out of a dowel (or even an unsharpened pencil), some string (dental floss?) and an opened paper clip, turned around like a hook. Then each child get a chance to go fishing for his or her own Rice Krispy treat. If you want to jazz this game up a little, put cupcake sprinkles on the treats before you wrap them up, or for an interesting twist, try the berry krispies — they taste good, and are bright pink. 
Also, you could number the squares, and then have a drawing for a Bratz prize. It may sound lame, but the kids have always liked it!
This next one was always a lot of fun. Go to the bank and get quite a few rolls of pennies (maybe 10 or more — you want a lot of pennies for this game). Then pour them all in a bowl. A low bowl with a large opening and a gently sloped side works well. Like a medium sized metal mixing bowl, if you can picture it. Have a watch with a second hand or a timer, and then allow each child a set amount of time (I think we used to give 20 or 30 seconds) to balance as many pennies as possible on the side of a butter knife. They should not be pushing pennies over the side of the bowl, though — the boys at my daughter’s party did this and it really wasn’t fair. They also shouldn’t have their other hand in there trying to balance pennies on the knife. They have to actually scoop up the pennies on the knife, balance them on it, and then they can dump them outside the bowl and go in and get more. It’s a lot harder than it sounds, and most kids won’t get more than 10 or 20 cents. Whoever gets the most money out “wins” — and everybody gets to keep their pennies. I would advise getting little bags for this, because not everybody has a pocket! A variation I tried with my daughter was to put nickels, dimes, and quarters in, as well, and then I had the kids count up their money. That ate up a lot of minutes (which was good)!
Some other things I’ve done indoors were decorating individual pizzas. I bought boxes of personal sized pizzas at Sam’s Club and set out little bowls of pepperoni, ham, olives, onions, mushrooms, extra cheese, etc. and the kids got to make their own pizzas. You can bake a bunch of these at once, too. I do recommend having some extra help with this one.
One time I bought foam doorknob hangers and some foam stickers and fake rhinestone stickers and they each decorated a hanger to take home. This activity took a lot of time, mainly because I hadn’t thought to sort out the letter stickers in advance, and the kids spent a lot of time looking for the letters in their name among the 17 bazillion stickers on the table.
If you have a large space where the kids can dance, we have a game made by Cranium called “Hullabaloo.” It’s actually aimed at preschoolers, but even my almost-9-year-old enjoys playing it. It’s kind of like a mix between Twister and Simon Says and the 5 and 6 year olds at the last party I was at really had fun with it. I’ve seen it most places for about $15-20.
Finally, we always have some variation on “pin the tail on the donkey.” Last year when my younger daughter turned 6, we had “Pin the Ponytail on Polly.” I made a big poster of Polly Pocket and cut out “ponytails” from posterboard. Each guest got her own “ponytail” with her name on it. I put double-sided tape on each and had them all hanging on the wall next to the poster. We blindedfolded the guests (to prevent spreading lice, I bought a half yard of bright $1 fabric at Wal-Mart and just cut long strips so each guest had her own blindfold) and they each stuck the ponytail where they thought it would match up on the Polly Pocket poster. The one who was closest won a prize.
