Hello everyone. I have a english project which asks me to write a review on ‘thank you for smoking’. I’m not that great at writing introductions, so i was wondering if someone could help me out, change a few things, and basically tell me if im missing anything.
Here’s what i have so far:
“Michael Jordan plays ball. Charles Manson kills people. I talk. Everyone has a talent” states Nick Naylor. Being the chief spokesman for a major tobacco company, ‘The Academy of Tobacco Studies,’ Nick Naylor’s, played by Aaron Eckhart, role is to inform the public about the research that goes on in his company and also defend the rights of smokers everywhere. Aaron Eckhart portrays a comedic, yet a very intellectual character in the movie Thank You for Smoking, which is directed by Jason Reitman. The movie itself is a magnificent, incredibly hilarious film that brings us to the real world and puts us into eyes of both political and corporate views.
Not a bad framework. What you need to do is simplify, prune, and organize, and eliminate grammatical inconsistencies and infelicities. You can’t for example say “Nick Naylor’s, played by Aaron Eckhart, role.” You can say “As chief spokesman for a tobacco company, Nick Naylor, played by Aaron Eckhart, is supposed to inform the public about the research that goes on in his company etc.” (A reviewer would probably say “played with great gusto by” or however it’s played, I haven’t seen the film.) And try to put the most important stuff first, e.g., the name of the film!
Here’s one take on it. I’ve replaced the pretentious “states” with the simpler “said.” Removed an obvious inconsistency — the Academy of Tobacco Studies isn’t a tobacco company. Note that I’m guessing here — I haven’t seen the movie and I read the book a long time ago, and your explanation isn’t clear. You’ll have to find a way to say what you mean. Added the author of the book, took out Aaron Exhart — you don’t even say who he plays. Remove some unnecessary modifiers (“magnificent” and “incredibly”) and moved the name of the film, and the director and author, to the top.
Couldn’t make much sense of your final sentence, so left an ellipsis.

Why do people hate teenagers so much?
Adults always talk about teenagers like seriously “who messed up the park” “oh probably an annoying teenager” and there are also people in general “I hate teenagers” Whyyy cause I met adults allot more immature then teenagers. Because they are jealous. It would not be so bad if this culture respected their elders, but in the western culture if you are over 35 you are persona non-grata. It’s all about youth, that cause a type of jealousy “like Hey, I’m still here, have a lot of life yet to live”…no one listens. In societies were the older people are respected the follies of youth are seen as normal, laughed at and enjoyed not to say there is no punishment but the tension is not there. But right now all we got is the knowledge that “you” will someday be here, heh,heh,heh rotten kids…..I hope I’m still alive, heh,heh, heh…
