I think my mom is smoking pot?
Okay so i’ve had my suspicions before like i’d come up to the family room and there’d be smoke everywhere and i’d pretend not to notice. then another time i found her pipe thingy in the computer seat.

and then another time i had come upstairs and i was gonna play a joke on her and sneak up behind her and say like suprize! or somthing like that. but i came up behind the couch and looked down looming over her and i found her pipe and a bag of grassy looking stuff in her lap. and this is the last straw just a few minutes before writing this i came to the computer and saw it was on her setting but she was looking to buy another pot pipe and i tried to think it was for tobacco but when i looked up tobacco pipes there was nothing like it but when i looked up pot pipes there were lots more.
what do i do???
You should confront her about it. She’s not just affecting her health. She’s affecting the health of you and anyone else who lives in the household. Pot contains three times the amount of carcinogens (cancer-causing substances) as cigarettes. People think it’s okay to smoke it once in a while, but once in a while usually turns into almost every day. I’ve seen it happen to my friends, and it’s not just a harmless herb. It makes people lazy and unable to find other things to do with their time.

Second Hand Smoking Tests: How Do They Work…?
Secondhand smoke or passive smoke or environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) is a combination of the smoke produced from burning cigarettes and the smoke exhaled by the smoker, from which over 4,000 different chemicals have been identified & around 50 of these chemicals are known carcinogens, a combinatorial effect of which poses a myriad of health risks to communities across the globe. A recent draft report from the Environmental Protection Agency concludes that exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS), which includes the smoke from a burning cigarette as well as “second-hand” or exhaled smoke, causes some 3,000 U.S. lung-cancer deaths and thousands of new cases of childhood asthma each year. ETS is also linked to pneumonia, bronchitis, and other health problems.
A diverse array of testing methods are available nowadays, some are laboratory based while others are used for home testing purposes. Most of these tests provide a quick, accurate and on-the-spot determination of a person’s level of exposure to tobacco products either actively or passively i.e. by second hand smoke & allow detection, verification and monitoring of tobacco use status over a period of time. Frequent users of these tests include parents of young children, workers in a smoky workplace, smokers trying to quit, coaches, insurance companies, smoking cessation counselors and other persons concerned about the harmful effects of second hand smoke.
Urine Strip Tests:
Amongst these tests are various easy to use, non-invasive urine nicotine strip tests which are reasonably fast and accurate & can detect exposure to second hand smoke along with active usage of cigarettes, pipes, cigars etc. Such tests measure the levels of cotinine, a byproduct of the body’s breakdown of nicotine which is an active ingredient found in tobacco products and tobacco smoke. Cotinine is a widely accepted indicator of recent tobacco product use and exposure, including second hand smoke exposure.
How does it work?
The end of the urine test strip contains gold particles coated with an antibody that selectively binds to cotinine in the urine. After the end of the strip is dipped in urine, the gold particles migrate through specialized “traps” in the strip. The more cotinine bound to a gold particle, the further it is able to migrate along the strip. The reddish bands seen on the developed strip correspond to gold particles caught in a particular trap. This test is extremely sensitive and can measure amounts as low as 6 ng of cotinine per milliliter of urine (6 billionths of a gram in one fifth of a teaspoon).
HPLC based Fluorescent Testing:
Some techniques have been developed for monitoring carcinogenic pollutants in environmental tobacco smoke & are thousand times more sensitive than previous techniques. In one such technique, two dual computer-programmable fluorescence detectors are used along with high performance liquid chromatography and combined with a unique new sample preparation protocol to screen for a wide range of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and their equally hazardous alkyl derivatives in environmental tobacco smoke. This new technique can work with less than a milligram of sample and enables researchers to identify and estimate the concentrations of both parent and alkyl PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) with precision and accuracy.

Where do 13/14 year olds get smokes?
I live in Gold Coast, Australia… great place. Anyway, at school there is always those kids that smoke, they get cartons of smokes and smoke in the bathrooms, at home, at shops they’re everywhere in schools now days! Im 13 and I’ll admit, I’m not necessarily a smoker, but should my best friend (who’s sister is 15 and smokes about 10 cigs a day and gives him about 5) decide to bring a smoke my way sure, I’ll jump at it, granted only once every couple of months. And yea, we can get them off our older relatives, like my 16 year old cousin who gave me 2 randomly last time i saw him when i found out he smoked. But these guys have about 5 new cartons a week! WTH?!

Don’t smoke. It’s bad and will give you cancer. Have you ever seen someone dying of cancer? It’s not a pretty sight. Don’t do that to your family. Also, smoking at your age is illegal. It’s addictive and self destructive and bad. So now that I’ve given you the whole smoking is bad, don’t do it lecture. People get cigarettes from older friends, and siblings who smoke. Some people steal them, or steal them from their parents. But like I said it’s not something you want to get into and stealing is wrong. You’ll get in a lot of trouble if you get caught smoking and rightly so.
