I’m tired of smelling like smoke?

Both of my parents smoke, and I always smell like it. I’ve tried to get my parents to stop smoking but everytime I tell them the dangers, show them the videos, or talk to them about it they say that none of it’s true, my dad doesn’t even believe in second-hand smoke & says it’s all fake. I told my mom about what’s in a cigarette and same with my dad and they just do the same thing, suck their teeth and say “No that’s not true” and smoke away. Kids at school don’t like hugging me cause they say “EWWW SHE SMELLS LIKE SMOKE!” and some kids don’t even hang out or talk to me because they think I smoke, some aren’t even allowed to be my friend because their parents think I smoke. I take lots and lots of showers per day to escape the smell & spray bottles & bottle & bottles of perfume, but it doesn’t work because my parents are puffing away. What do I do? I am at my boiling point with this damn smoking issue.

It sounds like your parents are extremely stubborn and unwilling to compromise. Unless you’re old enough to move out, you’re going to have to try to make the best of it in the meantime.

Do you have your own room? If so, keep ALL of your clothes, coats, jackets, purses, backpack, etc. inside of it, and keep the door closed and windows open. Better yet, if you have a large enough closet, pack everything away in there with some sort of air freshener. Baking soda works great at absorbing odors rather than just covering them up… You can keep a few small dishes of it inside your closet and room. Do you do your own laundry? If not, I’d definitely start. Tide with color-safe bleach smells really good, and the scent lasts for awhile. Scented dryer sheets help, too. Make sure to fold/hang everything as soon as it’s done drying and take it into your room right away. All of these things in combination should make a big difference.

If you can, take a shower and get ready right before school and avoid your parents and their smoke until you’re ready to go. I used to lock myself in the bathroom until it was time to leave for school… That way, there’s not enough time for the smoke smell to get on your clothes and hair.

I realize this is an awful way to live, and for your sake I hope they consider your feelings and take the smoking outside. Good luck.

I am offering these secrets to you, the smoker who wants to quit, who has perhaps tried to quit many times, tried to cut down many times, who feels somewhat guilty about smoking and knows secretly that they ought to give up, but who probably enjoys the habit and rewards of cigarette smoking.

 What should a good quit system do for you. –

 Any good, well planned and successful system to help you quit should contain strategies for you to be successful as follows - 

• You must prepare yourself properly for the program. Decide to quit and don’t make a big thing of it with yourself
• You must choose the right time in your life to begin to quit. Choose as calm a period in your life as possible.
• Develop a plan to gradually reduce smoking in your life. You started smoking gradually, you should quit in the same way.
• Do not have a “quit smoking day” in the plan. Having a quit day in your plan when you will stop smoking forever is nonsense. It will sit there in the back of your mind getting more and more imminent and more and more challenging as the day approaches.
• Allow for temporary failure. You will probably fail and perhaps have a cigarette at one time or another in your plan, allow for it and plan to deal with it.
• Do not allow guilt into your plan. When and if, you fail do not allow guilt to get to you, if you do, you are doomed to fail.
• Make sure you understand and deal with possible weight gain, cravings and friends who try to get you back on smokes.
• Don’t count daily cigarettes as part of your quit plan. Any plan that rations cigarettes on a daily, weekly or monthly basis will almost certainly fail.
• Take your time. Have no fixed end date to quit smoking. You will stop when you are ready and not before.

 

After many years of trying and experimenting, I found a simple straightforward gradual way to quit. It is built around all the points I have just discussed, has worked for me and many others and has given smokers the very best chance of quitting smoking forever.

Cigarette Addiction already?

I had my first cigarette a few months ago. For the most part, I can go a few weeks without it. But recently, I’ve started really loving the way it smells, and the taste. I saw this video on youtube, “Smoke Smoke Smoke that cigarette”- and I was craving one already. Even though its awful, I’ve gotten used to the taste in my mouth, and it calms me down. I KNOW all the dangers of smoking, I guess I’m mental. But my question is, Am I already addicted? I’ve probably only MAXiMUM had 40 cigarettes. But like now, I really want one.
