Effects of smoking in the short term?
I have a query on the effects of smoking on somebody who has smoked for about a year.
I personally don’t smoke, I’m overweight and do no aerobic exercise as it is so I hardly need to ruin my lungs, but I have a friend whose smoked for about a year or so now.
He was very restrained I must say and only smoked between one and four cigarettes a day, excluding a couple of occasions where he had ten or eleven, but he’s quit now, well he’s been “clean” for a couple of weeks, if he relapses that will change things, but I’m just curious as to whether or not that will have a serious impact on his health.
I smoked for a few days last year, mainly due to being curious about how it felt, and it didn’t agree with me so I stopped, but he enjoyed it.
I know tar and nicotine quantities vary from brand to brand, he smoked mainly Mayfair and Marlborough, occasionly smoking Benson & Hedges.
We have an add running that says “Every cigarette is doing you harm” this is true, if you were connected to a meter that measures oxygen in the blood you would see that even one cigarette lowers your level, this is harmful to every organ in the body.
Don’t be fooled by ‘Low Tar’, the smoke does most of the harm. There is no level of smoking that is safe.

im only 16 but im smokin. it started as a casual thing but i started doin it regularly for like 2 months. a pack lasts me like 3 days. i tried to quit but i couldnt :/ what effects will it have on my growth, im already huge so yea…. i can go like a week without a cig, but its more the mental addiction. thinkin a need a cig, but not really needin one. you know when you dont have one, u just think u do? thats how it is im not physically addicted but mentally. i know im a moron for doin it but how long do i have till my lungs are ash?

Obviously, you have some time, but just the fact that this is a possibility, is that little plant, paper, and tar really worth that much to you. You can quit this, you just have to take control of yourself. You are responsible for your actions, the ones that affect you and those around you. Since, I can remember I’ve had to fight OCD (obsessive compulsive disease) and I’ve had my share of struggles. You can overcome this you just have to realize that you, not only can do it, it is actually impossible for you to fail. The only one stopping you is yourself, your letting yourself fail. Any addiction can be overcome, ANY, because the human mind is much stronger than any outside influence that exists, even the disease that affect the very will and consciousness of your mind.
