I am very concerned the mother of my grandchild is smoking pot and is 5 months along and still has not seen a Doctor. My son is the father and they are not married but he is more than willing to take full responsablity for the baby but he can not make her quit smoking or go to Doctor. Also the mother does not want the baby and has said the only way she will put his name in the birth certificate is if he bring the baby here to raise it, we live in Texas and they are in Virginia. If they do test the baby and it comes up positive then Social Services will get involved. Heck the father could ask for the child to be tested because he feels it’s in the best interest of the child and he suspects she is using. It will be up to the hospital if they want to pursue it and call Social Services.
On a side note, And I thought this was crazy, some doctor’s are prescribing medical marijuana to pregnant women to combat morning sickness (hypermesis gravidum type only of course). They are saying that HG is more of a concern to the infant than marijuana which has great effects on severe nausea. So I wouldn’t worry too much about it actually hurting your grand child. I’d be more concerned about the kind of mother she is going to be and getting custody of the child.
